Thielsch awarded Fuel Storage Tank Replacement Project for Massachusetts Department of Correction

In November 2017, Thielsch Engineering was awarded a $1.85MM contract for the removal and replacement of fuel storage tanks at several facilities for the Massachusetts Department of Correction.ย  The Department of Correction oversees the state prison system, managing inmates at 16 institutions across the state and is the largest law enforcement agency in the state of Massachusetts.doc

The scope of work involves excavating and removing underground storage tanks (USTs) and replacing them with aboveground storage tanks (ASTs).ย  There are eleven (11) USTs, ranging in capacity from 4,000 to 25,000 gallons, to be removed. ย The USTs are to be replaced with seven (7) ASTs ranging in capacity from 1,000 to 10,000 gallons.ย  This project will require installing concrete support pads for the new ASTs as well as the installation of in excess of several hundred feet of new supply and return piping.

As can be imagined, there are numerous Federal, State and Local laws and regulations concerning environmental pollution control and abatement that must be adhered to when embarking on a project such as this. Thielsch Engineering has over 30 years experience with these types of projects and is considered an industry expert in underground and aboveground storage tank regulations and handling.
